We stopped-by for supper recently on our way home from a day trip in New York City, specifically because of the great review of the place when it was featured on THE FOOD CHANNEL's show, "You Gotta Eat Here"... Well, turns out that the rye bread & the Hungarian goulash soup & salad were the highlight of the meal. The... More

Having a hankering for Germanic food I was directed here...it was a bit of a "dive"...not a place that I would bring my wife to, a place I would have loved in my student days in the 60's. The food was Germanic/ Austrian/ Hungarian...I liked it...starting with a goulash and ending up with a Bavarian platter washed down with German... More

My husband had been asking me to go to this restaurant for a while, but its location downtown and old storefront wasn't very appealing to me. I finally caved, and to my delight it was a great evening! The food was fresh and delicious and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Would definitely visit again!

A great long time Staple Restaurant, in Downtown Hamilton. Authentic German Food. I have been here twice. I will go again!

There's a reason they no longer have line ups out their doors. Last time I went, Pusta Schnitzel had to be sent back twice as it was so overcooked, bottom was deep brown, top layer was separating from bottom layer that had the texture of hard toffee. Couldn't wait for 3rd plate as we were late for the theatre. Service... More

We read the many great reviews and were anticipating a good experience. Alas, it was not to be. The emphasis here is on quantity, not quality. Just because the Schnitzel covers the plate doesn't mean it's good. The Vienna Schnitzel was passable, but another Schnitzel was smothered in a tasteless sauce and the third was overcooked and tough. I got... More

We selected the Black Forest Inn for a work group lunch. I ordered the Jaeger Schnitzel that comes with a mushroom sauce that completely hid the schnitzel. It was nicely spiced but the sauce overwhelmed the schnitzel. Fresh sauteed zucchini was the vegetable. The cabbage soup that came with the meal was the star. A home made tomato broth forms... More

Fantastic food, fantastic and friendly service and fantastic prices!! Best schnitzel I've ever had in a restaurant hands down! I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an authentic German food and German atmosphere experience. Walking in was like walking into a restaurant in Europe! I hope they keep it that way! If I am ever in Hamilton again... More

Like in old Tirol. The schnitzel is as big as your plate, really... too big. Assorted sauce, greasy homefrie and sourcroute. Dark and in need of refreshing but it is always the same food. Good but never extraordinaire. The waitress are often kind of rude and in a hurry, even on a slow day.
