Finally, a place in Yellowknife that serves good coffee! We've (unfortunately) been subject to lots of bitter, burnt, horrible coffee at hotels and restaurants in this city. Gourmet Cup had decent roasts that my colleague could drink black, much to her delight. They made a pretty decent latte as well.

There are two Starbuck-like restaurants in Yellowknife. Gourmet cup is the smaller, but more friendly and local feel. The owner makes her own sandwiches and gets another local to make killer cakes and cookies.

First to find it, you have to go downstairs in the YK center. The coffee and tea are of great quality but the nonchalant staff that don't smile, plunk your coffee down and don't call you detract from the ambience which is "cafeteria" in itself. Don't expect more than the coffee and you will be ok.

If you're not the double double guy (or girl) and like good tasting coffee that you can drink black, this is the place for you. A good honest cup of coffee can be ha here, however, there are the fancy mocha chino something or others Sandwiches can be had as well as a lunch special each day
