The menu is a mystery. All in Spanish and no descriptions. Taco Al Pastor is easy, but what about Arrachia Norteno? It was all excellent and the price was great. It helps a lot to know the language, but we'd struggle through it again and again.
The taco's el pastor are amazing at El Fogon!! Great mix of tourists and locals alike for great food and excellent prices!! Not al lot along the lines of English speaking staff but we had no issues getting the point across. A must visit in playa del Carmen!!

Wonderful tacos...but definitely locals place. Waiter was not friendly, or helpful in helping us select menu choices.
Our hotel tipped us off abour this place close to the Walmart. Its away from the tourist restaurants on 5th Avenue and is full of locals as well as the odd tourist.
We ended up here 3 times during our stay as other places just weren't as good.

I got the El Fogon plate. I wonder who got the other half of the pig. The plate was huge. Two of us made another meal from the left overs. I had one margarita and it was strong. This is the kind of place that makes tripadvisor a success. I would have never known about this place otherwise.
We had the arrachera fajitas and we were not disappointed. The food was really good here and I would definitely go back. The prices were much lower than anywhere on 5th.
I would recommend going to this place if you want really good Mexican food at reasonable prices. ....and stay away from 5th Ave.

This place is always packed especially with foreigners. The food here though is spot on! The taco loco is a great place to start especially if you are hungry. The chorizo tacos had the right amount of spice and we also ordered a New York steak which was really tasty but was about 30% fat. The pastor tacos were good...
