There is no words to describe the delight when tasting the excellent dishes that Rafael, the chef-owner prepares. And having one of this marvelous meals in the terrace overlooking the beautiful garden and the pool is priceless. Congratulations!!!

We really enjoyed dinner at this restaurant, it has a beautiful garden with a pool, very relaxing and romantic ambience. We really liked the sushi and the risotto its also very very enjoyable!

If you are in Puerto Plata you must go to this restaurant. It is located in a home, hard for taxis to find but well worth the journey. The food is out of this world. Go!

Spent time recently in Puerto Plata, and ate at Mares twice. Really unlike anything else around. Beautiful setting, especially outside. Chef Rafael is outstanding, he is a warm guy who spent a bunch of time with us, and most importantly, the food was creative and excellent. He cares about ingredients and preparation and it shows.

I wasn't keen to leave our hotel, but my husband convinced me to venture out and I'm glad that we did. The food at Mares was great but even better was the person service. You are literally eating in someone's (very elegant) converted home. The owner was a doll as was his staff.

This place is something unique in the caribbean, the food, the place, the CHEFF, just perfect. sometimes you believe that you have to go to a big city or a big country to eat like this, but no way this its much much better that any other. thanks and we will be back.
