Staying at Strete Barton House, the Laughing Monk was an obvious choice as its right next door and cam highly recommended. The food was delicious - all three courses - though beware, the portion sizes are generous....! Lovely atmosphere and friendly service.

After arriving at Strete Barton Geust House Stuart booked us a table at the Laughing Monk and we would highly reccommend the Laughing Monk to any one stopping in the Dartmouth area. The food was lovely and well presented, and service we got there was fantastic. Andy and Wendy

We were looking for an early dinner and found the Laughing Monk after getting lost in all those little lanes that infest Devon. The meal we had was by far the best meal of the week. The pork was fantastic. Definitely the best food in the area for us.

We did not know where to eat so looked up Trip Advisor and found this place. We were able to get a table straight away at 5.00pm as we have a 5 year old. The waitress was lovely and welcoming and smiley!! I had the crab and prawn cocktail which was lovely and my husband had the corned beef which... More

Staying for 2 nights at Strete Barton House, we booked into the Laughing Monk for dinner for the 1st night and then returned the 2nd night (with extra family member) without hesitation (we were going to try the Kings Arms which has also received good TripAdvisor reports, but our 1st visit to the Laughing Monk was so positive we just... The chef here deserves special praise for the fantastic flavours in his dishes which are distinctive and brilliantly balanced. We had dinner here twice in our four day holiday and thought the food was much much better than most London restaurants. The fact that it's all locally sourced is wonderful, but it's the perfect cooking which allows you to really... More

We've been to the Laughing Monk 4 times over the last year and it has never failed to charm us with its delicious food and warm-hearted service. The fish dishes are inevitably superb given Start Bay is only a stone's throw away, but so are those from the local meat and game. The cheese course on our last visit was... More

Just spent 4 continuous nights at the Laughing Monk. Great menu, reasonably priced wine list, and attentive service - all in a lovely setting.

By which I mean near my house! We love food and we loved The Laughing Monk. You would pay a heck of a lot more to get the same quality in big cities like London and Paris. Everything was just perfect.
