Istas is an institution and a piece of history. Originally set up to supply the locals with bread with fromage blanc ( a fresh, mild white cheese spread) and radishes, it has been serving most of its Belgian customers for several generations. The menu has expanded to include steak with a variety of sauces (my favourite is the poivre vert... More

The typical and traditional Belgian brasserie as good as you can find it. Interior is warm, traditional, waiters work fast to help people in crowded brasserie as fast as they can, and become real pleasant over time. Delicious are the steaks ( poivre creme flambe, or bearnaise or Istas style), fabulous cote de veau, typical season dishes like choucroute, asparagus... More

Been coming here for Sunday lunch, though haven't been for a few months. It serves typical Belgian fare: steaks, joules, rabbit, stew, great frites. The service is normally good, though it does depend which waiter/waitress you get: some are a bit surly. Wines are cheap and cheerful. Along with its neighbour, the Restaurant de la Foret, it beats all the... More

Istas looks like what it is, a hold over of another age. It is the traditional big roadside brasserie serving traditional dishes with staff dressed and serving as if the 1950s are still on. So you get honest Belgian classics served in a casual friendly manner. Ideal to have a drink or a lunch when exploring the green belt around... More

Stayed at the adjoining Hotel Soret for 2 weeks business meetings so frequented Istas and consistently impressed every time. Steaks cooked to perfection, excellent sauces and frites. Leffe served so I'm happy. English speaking and menu if required so felt more welcome. Highly recommended!

Not the best restaurant in Jesus Eik. Decor is old, service is poor, food is average, brasserie style. We will not go back.

Well known in the area; It reflects the café architectures beginning of the 20th century. The inside was never changed. Not only visited by local people but attracts many foreigners living in the Brussels area. The menu card is limited to typical regional food. Every month there is a diferent excellent wine at € 15,00 for a bottle. Recommended to... More

Out of all the restaurants in Jezus-Eik Istas and Maison de la Forest are possibly the best. The steak frites in Istas does not get better than this. Good meat, decent chips and the sauces are always included in the price. The rest of the cooking is brasserie style and fairly good too. The restaurant does not accept reservations (bit... More
