"I have to admit the whole idea of going to Nome, Alaska in the middle of winter was terrifying to me. An East Coaster from the south that has been residing in Florida for the past 20 years...below zero weather was a tad bit intimidating and exciting.
My company books travel through a travel gro..."up and Nome didn't have a single hotel for the agency to reference. Imagine that. After a little bit of research I found there were really only a few choices for hotel and to be honest I wasn't sold. I reviewed #7 on the internet and requested the arrangements be made there...and what a Wonderful decision it was.

"This hotel was clean and the staff were nice enough. Pretty much everything in town is walking distance, and one can rent an SUV of travel outside Nome is needed.
We were there for Iditarod week. It was pleasantly busy, but not loud or in anyway unpleasant.
If we were to again be in Nome, w..."e would certainly stay here again.

"The Nugget Inn was the perfect place to stay for the Iditarod. It is located next to the finish line. When the fire siren sounded to announce the approach of a dog sled team, I could just put on my coat and go out to the Burled Arch to welcome the team in. The Inn looks like an old boarding house..." with long corridors and stairs. It is very clean. I loved the welcoming smell of home cooking in this family owned and operated hotel. I loved sitting in the old bar, which is now part of the family's home, and looking out over the frozen Bering Sea. As a special treat for Iditarod week they provided boxes of free bakery treats for the guests to accompany the coffee and tea in the lobby. I thought the character of the hotel was entirely in keeping with the gold rush town of Nome.
