I, like you are doing, researched and read reviews on hotels in Mauritius and during our 10 day holiday had a passing look at a few others. In comparison for us, Tamarina Golf and Spa had all we needed; is in a superb location and went well beyond expectations. Common criticism is aimed at the food. We did not feel the need nor a desire to eat elsewhere other than the main hotel restaurant.   "Just back from 2 weeks here,having booked following close observation of comments made on trip advisor.Happily had a really great time,weather was brilliant.Location is superb,right on a sandy beach which,whilst being public,was usually deserted due to river requiring wading to get from village.Sea ..."was warm,not crystal clear due to volcanic nature of the island but very clean,as was the beach. The hotel is located a couple of miles from the road in a very isolated location and with no shop at the hotel it is a 20 pound taxi ride to stock up on anything you need. Our room (511) was close to the beach , bars and restaurants although the view of the beach is quite restricted due to trees.The room was large,simply but tastefully furnished with a large ensuite shower room with separate toilet.The quality of the towels was not of the standard expected and a minor niggle was not having a bedside drawer to put the clutter in. The three hour time difference from the UK was also a bonus as it rules out too much of a jet-lag problem. The choice was poor and you had to wait for the movies to end before you could view them as they are all on an endless loop. On arrival, we were met by our taxi driver who was charming and very friendly and gave us a fair resumee of life in Mauritius as we trundled on the forty five minute trip to Tamarina. The resort itself was very impressive being built into a gently sloping hillside overlooking the sandy beach.
