"A friend and I both brought our daughters (age 1 and 3) to Nicaragua where we had both lived back in the day. We stumbled upon the Peace Project Hostel while visiting la Laguna de Apoyo and ended up spending two wonderful nights there. Everyone was so kind and fun and thoughtful and it was a great i..."nternational activist scene. Our daughters even joined in on one of the local kid activities that the volunteers organized. I highly recommend a stay at the hostel. Ask for the butterfly room!

"I would recommend anyone going through Granada to stop by Laguna De Apoyo and with that I would highly recommend staying at the Peace Project Hostel. The staff is very friendly and willingly gives you ideas of things to do and ways to spend your time. The hostel is just a 1 min walk to the lake and ..."while at the hostel you have access to kayaks and innertubes which are perfect for enjoying a day out on the lake. If you are interested in practicing your Spanish this is a great place to be because the staff will help you out. If you just want to speak English you will also be fine here. The hostel is also very easy to get using the public bus so I would recommend using that.
If you are lucky while you are there you will also get to see a day of camp at the hostel going on.

"I went to La Mariposa with my colleague William and twelve students from our high school in New Hope, PA in December 2012. It was an unforgettable experience. Our group was the first one to stay at El Piscacho. Our students became friends with all the people who worked with Paulette because they w..."ere so kind, friendly, and helpful. They were also very patient and tried to understand our Spanish! They taught us so much! Not just language, but life. Our students also became friends with the neighborhood children, and their parents. It was a profound life-changing experience for all of them. We are going back next December, with fourteen students; seven of those are returning students from last year. Two of them will also be working at La Mariposa this summer. I warmly recommend La Mariposa and El Piscacho to all.
