This place is ON the beach. Our clean, bright, corner studio ..."had 2 spectacular views of the beach and of Hither HIlls State park. The deck was truly private and had 2 comfortable chaises and other chairs as well. The kitchenette was clean, everything was working properly and there was plenty of storage room. The bed was comfortable and their was immediate hot water. Even though our building had plenty of visitors it was quiet at night. The only issue was the TV was a little small, but that only mattered as I was trying to see the score on the basketball game, and that made it a little hard. But it was the most perfect room and view I could ever hope to ask for. I will always go there when I go to Montauk from now on. " More >

It was truly crucial to the weekend that we have a good room to check into. Tripadvisor to the rescue!! I read the reviews of the Stone Lion and made a reservation. An added bonus, the reception was held at the restaurant North by Northeast which is attached to the hotel...no driving! After a 5 1/2 hour car trip in heavy traffic, even my somewhat grumpy partner could only find positive things to say! Yes, you do check in at the restaurant. This hotel is not fancy but it was perfect for its calm and serene atmosphere. The room was clean and management was attentive. The town is..." just a short walk away, which is super convenient for nice cafes, etc. Montauk town and all of its environs is a very special place... a "real" place. Unlike some of the other beautiful towns that dot the island beaches [did someone say the "Hamptons?"] you won't feel out of place if you aren't a celebrity [yes, they can sniff you out before you know it!] or a celebrity hag or wannabe. Go for the ocean view room if you can, but if not, it's still a good choice to stay here. " More >
