  "The condos here are a bit dated, and vary significantly. We were very happy with this one -- great DVD collection, all the basics, great for cooks. And as usual, the snow was better than anywhere else near Tahoe, and the mountain is great for any level of skiier. My husband and I are really stron..."g intermediates, my 20-something son can get down any expert run, mostly gracefully, and we were all challenged and happy for 3 full days on the slopes. The one "beware" for Kirkwood, though, is that it is a "home-body" type place. BRING food to cook (limited restaurants, limited nightlife, etc). And especially if you have a vegetarian (or any one with diet limitations) plan to do your own cooking, and bring what you need. The only store up there has very limited ingredients for those with restrictions. " More >

  "Caples lake resort is an excellent value for your money if you are looking to stay near skiing and to spend some quality time with your family or spouse/significant other. However, keep in mind that this is an authentic Tahoe lodge, don't expect any frills. Highlights: -Watching the sun rise ..."on the mountains and over the frozen lake from my bed in the lodge -Getting to Kirkwood in 5 minutes and being the first person in the lift lines 2 days in row! -Snowshoeing around the frozen lake (Snow shoes provided for free) I recommend bringing your own breakfast and storing it in the refrigerator provided. They do provide baked goods, juice, and a coffee maker with coffee in the morning for the lodge guests, but I need more fuel for skiing. This is my number 1 choice near Kirkwood and I will keep coming back. " More >
