The locals were so friendly and helpful... Its a tiny town and the bar next door was open so we went in to ask if there's any..."where to stay only to discover Hotel Jeffery was open for business and we could be their first customers! What a complete treat it was to stay. The staff were so friendly, and even though it had just opened you could tell they were experienced hoteliers. I slept like a log (this is very high praise from me!!) and our breakfast was delicious. From memory I think there wasn't an en suite though, but a short walk down the corridor to a shared bathroom or shower room. As it was empty that was ok. We're so grateful they were there, I really didn't want to sleep in the car or drive back to San Francisco! We'd go again, but this time by plan to return. " More >

  "Quiet getaway for a weekend"
  "Innkeepers were very hospitable at this rustic foothill B&B. Room was comfortable and included a TV with a large selection of movies and a mini-fridge that was convenient for the picnic food we brought along. Complimentary wine was waiting. Sparkling wine and flowers were provided at an extra cost (..."my boyfriend spoiled me). The innkeepers were very accommodating to our special dietary needs and served a delicious four-course breakfast based on questionnaire that was sent before our arrival. Highly recommend taking along bug spray if you plan on sitting on the patio to enjoy the view as the sun goes down. Also suggest binoculars if you're into bird watching. Be aware that the owners do have dogs and a cat. " More >

  "Hi late review I know, but stayed at Penon Blanco Lookout in October 2012. We were the only couple staying there for the two nights we booked, and Margi and Wolfgang made us very welcome. Location is very much in the middle of nowhere and at night its VERY dark especially when you accidentally swi..."tch off your headlights whilst driving - not a pleasant experience! But the darkness makes the night sky look amazing, shooting stars and all. We also saw dear, mountain lion, skunk, woodpeckers oh and the donkey across the road. Accommodation is a mixture of Bavarian decor, lots of Meissen style pottery and ranch style but it works. The place is very clean, and would not hesitate to recommend. Ask Margi for directions to the local (5 miles) bar come BBQ with live music where the locals hang out it was great. " More >
