The staff is unfailingly helpful including negotiating with a taxi driver who could not be persuaded to drive us a distance he deemed "too short" (our language skills failed us). The rooms are clean, breakfasts (served on a covered p..."atio) are tasty and varied even for a multiple day stay. The in-house laundry service is careful and speedy (line drying, so some advance time is needed). The area is a bit tough for taxi drivers to find - key words include the nearby "nursing campus" help and Nepalis do not consider this to be Patan. Instead, The Yellow House is in Sanepa on the edge of Jhamsikhel. Several embassies and NGOs in the area means there are very good restaurants to walk to - El Mediterraneo and Ghangri (open chicken momos) are divine.   "WE stayed at this hotel after a trek to the Annapurna Base Camp. The rooms are very comfortable and the staff really friendly and helpful. There is a good cafe attached to the hotel in which you can find a limited menu but the food is well prepared and safe to eat. Even the salads are okay to eat..."...which was very welcome. There is no air conditioning, which was not an issue for us but might be for others. We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed the complimentary breakfasts and hot showers. " More >

  "We stayed in Kathmandu/Lalitpur in the SWOTHA hotel twice for several days. What a wonderful oasis in the buzzling city!! Wonderful people in the hotel - at thereception, in the restaurant, helping with all kinds of things to find and get along. It is small hotel in an old Newaris style house with s..."o much character and so nicely renovated. The rooms are elegant and in Nepali style with a European touch. The bath room was clean and spacy. The biggest treat was the breakfast in the garden veranda with all fresh Nepali homemade food. The lunch and dinner card is recommendable for anything - always very freshly prepared and decorated. And then Durbar square is just around the corner - you are directly in the city of Lalitpur with so many small shops and restaurants around. Take a tour to Durbar square before sunset and just watch the psople...wonderful!! Thanks for the experience. We will be back again and can only recommend the SWOTHA hotel. Jost & Sabine " More >
