  "We loved staying in this quaint little lodge, it is located in the Old Streets and offers a great feel of real Chinese living. Though the building and structure are thousands of years old, it has been updated inside with a cooling system, tv, and modern toilets. But it also has the look and feel o..."f an old Chinese house. In the evening the old streets light up and you can expect to find street vendors all around. Because it is an old old building, do expect to hear noise from the street below, this is part of what you are paying for if you know what I mean. The restaurant below is terrible, you can find lots of good eats nearby on the old street. I recommend going to the restaurant on the left corner of the arch about a mile down on old street.   "Ala Huangshan is a no-frills, budget-friendly hotel that like a sparrow, though small, is complete; well, almost. Room is clean but basic (not carpeted). Has amenities including hairdryer. At check-in, I was asked if I brought shampoo/soap; I understand they'll supply for a small fee if you hadn't. ..."Bathroom could've been better designed; water from shower stall flows out resulting in a wet toilet every time you shower. It's a few minutes' walk from where you go to take the bus to Huangshan. Near the bus station, you can get food and foot massages. Lots of mini-marts around the hotel but the one at the hotel lobby area was reasonably priced so had no reason to look elsewhere. Had dinner at the restaurant next to the lobby. While food was not out of the world, it was tasty, inexpensive (rmb40 for 2 dishes & drinks) and in adequate portions.   "Agreed with previous reviewers, thank you so much to Leslie r. for letting us know about the new 5 star hotel. The rooms were brand new and what you would expect from a 4-5 star hotel anywhere else, which was a relief given what I have heard about other hotel options on the mountain. Some comments ..."from other reviewers said there were no toiletries in the room, there is shampoo and shower gel and soap, but no lotion or conditioner. There is also free wifi but the signal wasn't strong enough to reach our room. What really pleasantly surprised me is that I left something in the hotel room...I called two days later expecting to never see it again, but they had actually found it and mailed it for me to my hotel in Beijing! So thank you so much for that and I definitely think this is the best hotel on the mountain! " More >
