We had a bedroom on the first floor which was generous in size along with en-suite bathroom which were well decorated and spotless. Hospitality tray and toiletries replenished daily. Breakfast was buffet style (usual format now) consisting of hot and cold food with a very good selection. Waiters are in attendance to serve tea and coffee.   "We stayed here for my birthday with a groupon deal. The entrance of the hotel is quite spectacular, the lounge room with the fire was very pleasant to sit quietly in. Our deal included a three course meal and bottle of wine, the food was excellent. The young staff are friendly and work their sock..."s off. We were given an upgrade on our room and was very roomy, it did need a spruce up paint wise and the windows need replacing which I presume is on the "to do" list. The things that needed doing were such simple things to do it seems a shame it wasn't done. Our bathroom was stunning to look at but when you looked closely the workmanship was poor - shame. The housekeeping manager really needs to double check cleaning is up to a good standard. This is all constructive critisism because we enjoyed our stay but would not like to have paid full price.   "We thought that the Travelzoo deal would be a nice treat for a friend's birthday as she was recovering from a knee replacement op. As we came down the drive, we commented on the Electricity Co. van and the man up the pole! First impression of the hotel was not good - peeling paint on the front door..." and a stunning - but dark - hall. Then came the bad news, no electricity and no idea how long it would be before it came back on. There was quite a "spirit of the blitz" in the lounge as everyone sat around chatting. The hotel did manage to rustle up a cup of tea for us all while we waited. Our men decided that we would wait until 5.30 pm. and then go home (1 hr away). Us women being more patient wanted to hang on but were over ruled. Thankfully, just as we got up to leave, the lights came on. The staff were very pleasant and did their best to keep us informed.
