There was also a noise and draft from the wind due to the poor state of the windows. Cleanliness in the room was very good but not perfect. I could not understand why the housekeeper left the decorative pillows on the floor in the corner of the room during the evening turn down service. The room was generally adequate but lacked five star touches like chocolates on the bed and the toiletries were very basic. The hot and cold breakfast was very good and the setting was perfect - elegant, quiet and relaxing. The staff were very attentive and extremely professional.   "Recently enjoyed our stay at the Grand Excelsior. Due to other circumstances arrived a day later and being fully booked the hotel kindly upgraded us to a two room suite. It is a big and busy hotel well situated with a close walk (if you dont mind the steps up the hill) to wonderful Vallettaa old to..."wn and bus terminus. We had a good view to the habour overlooking the pool so the balcony had lovely morning sun. Staff were friendly and provide an excellent dinner recomendation to Giannini. The public bus system is easy to navigate using the route map available from the Tourist Info office in town. 2.60 euro for a day ticket covers all lines and allows you to visit many parts of the island but be ready for a bouncy ride in some back streets.The North coast 15 then 222 gave a nice mix of new town and sea side views. The hotel was very well located, close to Valleta; the building itself was full of classical charm, quaint yet modern, and made you feel like you were a VIP in another time period. Our room was spacious, well appoin..."ted, with excellent beds. The bathroom was extremely clean and had all the commodities one could wish for. As far as we are concerned, the staff was also first class and quite friendly. We could use free wifi while enjoying the charming lounge, the music, and very good snacks. The gardens were beautiful and so vast we could not walk to the end of them. In sum, everything about the hotel Phoenicia was delightful and adapted to our taste and needs.
