Know before you go
Cornwall is for everyone. Thrill-seekers come for epic winter storms and the chance to surf in some of the U.K.'s best swells, while beach fans make a beeline to the county's mistake-them-for-Greece beaches in the south, like Kynance Cove. And then there's the area's lineup of cute villages and historic towns, plus family-vacation wonderlands like Newquay. There's no need to pick just one Cornwall destination, though, as short driving distances with plenty of pit stops make it a breeze to travel point to point. From famous Tintagel Castle in the northeast to Land's End in the southwest and artsy St. Ives, Cornwall's treasures are never far away.

Winter brings epic storms to Cornwall’s rugged coastline, and thrill-seekers are never far behind. But even if storm-chasing isn’t your thing, there are still plenty of pubs, restaurants, and inns open and ready to warm you up as Cornwall is one of the best year-round destinations in the U.K.

Traveling with your canine BFF? Cornwall’s beaches are dog friendly in the winter (unlike summer months), so it’s a great time to explore the shoreline with your pooch.

Holiday festivities are a big deal throughout Cornwall, including the famous Mousehole Harbour Lights and Montol festivities, which signal the winter solstice in Penzance.

Shorten your bucket list and take a Christmas Day plunge in the icy waters of the Celtic Sea or English Channel in towns like Sennen Cove.

Book an inn on Cornwall’s northern coast and get a front seat to some of the biggest, most dramatic swells in the U.K. during the winter storm season.

After a season of pounding weather, Cornwall eases into a gentle spring. Longer days, slightly drier weather, and carpets of wildflowers make this a perfect time to get outdoors before those summertime crowds hit.

Now that winter’s fiercest storms have passed, the South West Coastal Walk is safe to explore. Try a day walk on this network of paths. Or—if you want to go for record-breaking steps—do a multi-day trek between towns.

You’ll need a thick wetsuit, but spring brings prime surfing season in Cornwall. The massive wintertime swells that make this area famous have calmed a bit, allowing the adventurous to take to the waves with a bit less risk. You’ll find plenty of surf schools all around the region.

Daffodils get all of the springtime attention, but bluebells are actually the local sign that spring has truly arrived in Cornwall. May is your best bet for seeing them in full display and there are amazing spots across the county to see them carpeting the landscape. Try Lanhydrock Estate, the Looe Valley, or the Antony Woodland Garden.

Welcome to the main event. Summertime in Cornwall brings its warmest weather, longest days, and mobs of visitors to its towns and villages. You’ll be shelling out way more to book the quaint seaside inn of your dreams, but fans of a Cornish summer would say it’s entirely worth it.

While Cornwalls pubs (and even some of its restaurants) are legendary, there’s plenty of reason to get outdoors here during the summer. Adventurous souls can seek out a rush with zip lines, water parks, and surf lessons.

Beach hop between Cornwall’s hundreds of sandy shores—Kynance Cove, Holywell Bay, Carbis Bay Beach, and Lankidden Cove—many of which could be mistaken for Mediterranean beaches this time of year.

Get lost in Trebah Garden, just one of Cornwall’s many famous gardens, where postcard-perfect landscapes are set in a ravine that runs down to the shores of the Helford River.

Fall could be Cornwall’s most underrated season. Warm-ish temperatures and generally dry skies make this time of year a total delight. Even better? Those summer crowds have split, giving you better sightlines when visiting quaint villages, gardens, and forests—just in time to spot their foliage in full blaze.

Fall is stuffed with foodie-approved festivals across Cornwall, including the famed Truro Food Festival and the Falmouth Oyster Festival.

Snag a moment of Zen and take a forest bath in the legendary woodlands of Cornwall, like Idless Woods in Truro, while foliage is at its best.

The Tate St. Ives gallery is way less crowded now compared with peak season, making this a great time to explore its incredible collection of international artists.
