I hesitated to return however because they said it had been done I thought i'd give it a go. I was very fortunate to get a refurbished room and it was a pleasure. New design, yet keeping the..." touch of "old charm". Staff were very eager to be helpful without being annoying. Thumbs up for the new dining room and chef! This really came as a surprise. I hadn't planned to stay for dinner as I remembered it as pretty gloomy and disappointing. As an indication, it was full for dinner I can't wait to see it completely refurbished and look forward to returning next time I'm in the area Beautiful grounds too and fully operational gym and spa looking tempting (but I didn't have time to try it out).   "This was my second time staying at this hotel. As with the first visit, it didn't disappoint. The location is perfect - a short walk from the station and a quick, easy walk to the city center as well as the park and the Boathouse pub (old family hunting ground). The staff are friendly and helpful..." and the rooms are clean, with all the mod cons and a decent shower (often a shortfall in some hotels). I didn't have breakfast or dinner but it's obviously popular and looked decent. My room faced the road so it was a little noisy but not that bad. I stayed for 3 nights and the only night I had a hassle was my third night - a Friday - where some drunks decided to hold a 2am shouting match. It wasn't the hotel's fault but I mentioned it to the girl on reception when we checked out and without hesitation she offered a refund. I said no, but I was still impressed with her actions. As Chester is my birth town and I often return to visit aging relatives, I will definitely be back. " More >

  "The hotel is at the racecourse and about a 7 minute walk from the city centre. Chester is a very special place with lots of historic buildings and a 2 storey shopping centre. A lovely place to stay is the hotel although the beds could have better mattresses."
