The nearest bit of "civilisation" is Field, and that really is a tiny, tiny village, so dont arrive hoping you can pickup supplies near by or similar: there literally isn't anything for miles and this was the main reason we chose to stay here. Cell phones dont work and there's only limited wifi in the main lodge building which all just adds to the sense of seclusion - it was wonderful (even for a pair of internet-loving yuppies!). When we arrived we parked in the overnight guest parking, which as noted by some other reviewers is a short distance from the hotel itself. For those travelling through BC & alberta in the month of may, this is one of the prettiest lakes that has already thawed out - unlike lake louise or lake peyto. the open air jacuzzi overlooking the lake is great. kayaking is good fu..."n, but expensive on a daily basis. the on site restaurant is good- with a fine wine selection albeit a limited menu.the hotel is also near to the burgess shale deposits for those inclined to take a tour. we saw couple of black bears and numerous elk between Field and the 11 kms that it takes to reach the lodge.
