  "I have fond memories of this place. My grandmother's friends the Williams ran this hotel and their daughters Fran and Betsy were childhood friends then they went on to run the Thunderbird Lodge. I got to stay with them my 9th summer and run through the kitchen. The Williams always had dogs and puppi..."es. We would take the boat over and be greeted by all of the boys coming down the hill to grab our stuff in what I recall was a vehicle like a jeep or something. I skipped that. I ran to greet the dogs and their puppies as they came tumbling down the hill and they knocked me down and everytime I rolled around on the grass with them. I especially remember Big Red who is buried on one of the paths there and a pup named Taffy who drowned I believe the year I turned 8. There were no better than the Williams. The rooms were all so unique and old-fashioned and I loved to peak in them all to see which colors the beds were done in. I ran through the woods sharing my food with the dogs. I remember th... There is absolutely nothing to do, and you have all day to do it. And by absolutely nothing to do, I mean all you can do here is hike, canoe, take pictures, ta..."ke a nap, read a novel, sunbathe, swim, birdwatch, have a beer, take another nap...it's quite wonderful. The optimum way to visit is to take a few days to paddle in by canoe, stay in a nice hotel room or cabin, enjoy a good meal and drink, and then paddle back. This is not a mint on your pillowcase type of location, but I was never wanting for comfort. Please don't tell anybody else about it. This is just between you and me. " More >
