There is no obligation to eat at the house, but we ate every meal there as it was so good and Simon and Tisha are such great people. Simon even went to the airport the morning of our departure and checked us in while we had breakfast! You will never find this type of care in a 5 star hotel, and yet this place is affordable and ideally located near the centre of Lahad Datu and close to Danum Valley.   "This place completely met our expectations (which were high). Loved everything about it - and the Borneo rainforest itself. We booked 2 of the river rooms (side by side) - they are basic rooms, but wonderful in the jungle - with great balconies overlooking the river. Very peaceful and quiet, with..." the sounds of the jungle. The food was great - all buffet style - staff was wonderful. And we had a wonderful guide - Amorrey ... very knowledgeable and a lot of fun. Saw an orangutan the first afternoon (no more), and gibbons the second day. Deer and other animals during the night drive (which was fun). Its a bit structured (they tell you about the "activities") - but you can always walk to the amazing canopy paths by yourself.
