This hotel has actually considered the NEEDS of their customers beyond clean sheets and spare loo roll. I had a good night’s sleep disturbed only by the sound of an owl in the middle of the night and a loud goose adding to the dawn chorus. Breakfast was excellent, I can’t remember the last time I had such thick juicy bacon, so top marks to the Dower House chef for sourcing from a local butcher. Highly recommended. " More >

  "This was our 4th visit to Kirkstead Old MIll Cottagbe and once again we were warmly welcomed and treated like Royalty. Barbara really knows how to spoil her guests and once again the breakfasts were superb and served with some great banter by Reg!! Saturday morning we breakfasted to the sound of ..."the Lancaster at the nearby Battle of Britain Memorial Flight being put through its paces. The Monet bedroom feels like home now and the views are stunning. The going home gift is a nice touch and we took ½ dozen of Reg's hen's eggs some of which had blue shells!!   "Very good quality but some small niggles"
  "The hotel is set in a quiet location on the edge of the village in pretty gardens. Accommodation is large with comfortable bed and good quality furnishings. However a few details were odd : no saucers with the teacups, no tea other than PG Tips, limited toiletries, no dressing table, no full length ..."mirror and generally quite dull lighting. Tariff is quite high so these are things I would have expected. The bar is well stocked with real ale and friendly service. Breakfast is good, freshly cooked although relatively limited in selection. The main niggle is that a cooked breakfast has to be ordered by 9am which is O.K for business clients but is not suitable for a relaxed weekend away. This is apparently so that the kitchen can get ready for Sunday lunch; to the best of my knowledge this mainly needs oven capacity not the grill or gas rings required for breakfast, so I think there is a bit of running the business to suit the staff rather than the customers going on here!
