  "Relaxing stay in a Family Run Ryokan"
  "Stayed for 2 nights in April 2013. The Ryokan is a little away from the main part of Yufuin, which keeps it quiet. For some it may be too far, but it is about a 7 - 10 minute walk to a decent supermarket. While we did drive there, so didn't have to lug around bags etc.we did walk into town a few ..."times and it was a pleasant walk with things to see. While the outside is not particularly noteworthy, the rooms are spacious, well appointed and clean. There is a balcony that can be reached directly from the room and this is very pleasant to sit on in the afternoon. The food is very good and there is plenty of it. During the 2 nights both the dinner and breakfast menus changed each day. Meals are served in a common dining area, which is simple but very cosy. The Ryokan has both an outdoor and indoor spring fed baths which are easily large enough to cater for a family.   "This clean and remote guesthouse in a well know area of Oita Prefecture is a great place to get away from it all. This is not the place to come to get to know people. Rather, those you know well and want to spend time with. During our time there I saw one other group of six people. Which is fitting..." as there are only two units available. A vending machine is there for the late night beer and other drinks. That is because the nearest convenience store is about 20 minutes away-that should tell you all you need to know about being remote The food is good, the place quiet and I only saw a staff of one. But with only two "rooms" how many do you need. It is not a Ryokan, but there are tatami sleeping mats for use. Coffee machine and fridge are in the room as well as a variety of cooking utensils. NO t.v, in English. This place is strictly a retreat from the city. You need Karaoke and hostess bars then don't come here. " More >

  "We got a helpful run down of the place from an English-speaking member of the staff upon arrival. Rooms were large, clean and traditional looking. It is a relaxing resort ideal for those who would like to get away from crowds and the rest of the world. One small hiccup: Wi-fi was not easily av..."ailable. Pros/cons depending on your perspective. When we tried to ask the counter staff about wifi access, one particular manager was curt and unhelpful. The language barrier made communication even more difficult. Other than this one rude guy, the rest of the staff were extremely courteous and pleasant. For shopping there's a convenience store 5-10 min walk away & some souvenir shops around the resort. No big malls in the vicinity, but you won't feel compelled to shop anyway.
