The El Establo is great to look at but has no substance. Staff was not friendly or effecient. No coffee in the room (Thats a sin for Costa Rica). No clock either. Next time we will stay down the road at the Trapp Family lodge. Raymond and Jane Wallace More

last minute costarican trails which orgenized our trip to costa rica changed our accommodation in monteverde to this property and it was a great suprise. magnificent view of nicoya bay from the room, exeptional service and attitude by staff and high level of facilities like gym, 2 swimming pools. no a/c in rooms, but really not needed. This is a resort built by quakers and the room are incredibly cheaply made and for 200usd that is a shame-there is no a/c and therefore it is freezing (the walls between room are paper thin). They advertise coffee in the rooms but do not provide coffee makers. The breakfast restaurant was maybe a mile away, and they provide dreadful... More

Stayed here for two nights. Views from our room (in the 700 building) were amazing. No air conditioning in the rooms, but with cool mountain breezes it was very comfortable at night with the windows open. Rooms are comfortable but not luxurious - a good base camp for the many activities in the areas. However, a few drawbacks - first,... More

We loved this hotel immediately. It was beautiful and the staff was so friendly. Unfortunately, within minutes of checking in, my son got severely injured and required immediate medical attention. I spoke with the front desk and they did not waste a second getting help. Within moments there were 2 housekeepers that came into the room. They were an amazing... More

We stayed here for a couple of nights on our G adventures Family Tour. It was beautiful - the views were absolutely stunning (despite the weather) and the rooms were nice - clean, comfy, well-furnished and accessorized thought a little noisy. We did enjoy our stay - however the enormity of the place led to slight inconvenience. To access the... More

Nice location, nice niews, clean. Only 1 (!) working electrical outlet (aside from TV & alarm-clock) in the room, none in the bathroom. 2 amebity bottles without labels. This could be a great resort but obviously managed on the sheap side. Outrageous romm-service prices. More

Located on a steep hill with excellent views, the hotel is a decent place to stay. Rooms are large and comfortable. Breakfast was good though very crowded as it seems that a lot of tour buses stop here to feed their travelers. More

This hotel certainly doesn't resemble a stable any longer. It has some lovely landscaped areas, with some imposing buildings dotted around the site, there is a little too much exposed concrete for my liking, which can make certain areas look a little cheap or unfinished. But that can be forgiven for the view which our room afforded us, a sweeping... More

Stayed 2 nights with family in Dec 2011. Hotel is located on the main road from Santa Elena towards Monteverde Cloud Forest. It is a steep climb from the reception/restaurant area to the rooms (best to take the van). The rooms are large and airy with a beautiful view. There is no AC, fans, or heat. To regulate the temp...
