Carlos and Rosanna have a great place to stay. Just a word of warning that it is not close to town so you will have to either take taxis but often Carlos will drive you into town. They had a huge bbq one night with too much food! It was a delicious array of meat and local fare. Their young... More

Beautiful views of the cloud forest. Nice trails to walk around on. The owners were very friendly and made us feel welcome. They helped us book tours and let us use their computer. They let us help milk and feed the cows. The cabin we stayed in was clean, but a bit musty. It was quite windy there at night,... More

Carlos and his wife were so accommodating when we arrived at their little ranch/farm. They were extremely kind and made our food for us personally and it was excellent food. They served us food whenever we wanted, which was really nice since they sometimes did not eat at the same time. Also they were so willing to take us into... More

The hosts, a couple with 2 young children, made us feel very welcome and at home during our 3 nights at Rancho Makena. We have 2 girls, 11 & 13, and they loved playing with the 2 children. The food was good, the view spectacular, and the ranch was worth visiting on its own. We got to help milk the... More

3 friends and I stayed here for 2 nights. We intended on 3 but got lost near los Junas. Tip - If planning on driving here from Arenal Volcano, leave very early! Driving in Costa Rica can be crazy and we had to book at La Pacifica because it got dark. It gets dark here around 6 pm year round.... More

The whole family enjoyed our stay at Rancho Makena. Spacious rooms for a reasonable price, SUPER friendly owners, spectacular view from the cafe, and a very neat mountain farm. Our room had space for our entire family of 5 (which is not an easy thing to find in Costa Rica), and had a nice little kitchen in it as well.... More

Four of us spent a weekend at Rancho Makena, we rented a nice rustic cabin (two bedrooms, one bathroom, and a common area with a little refrigerator). Our cabin had view to the gulf. The place is run by the family owning the ranch. Most of the food and part of the electricity comes from the ranch itself (they generate... More

Great place to stay. We spent 2 weeks here and got to know Carlos and Rossana and their family very well. Our kids and theirs were the same age, so even on days when we didnt do a tour, it was still fun to just hang out. View is great. Can see most of the Gulf of Nicoya peninsula from... More
