Kanuka ridge is located less than a five minute drive from Marahau Beach (one of the most famous beaches in Abel Tasman, always depicted on the post cards). It is a little ways from a town or grocery store, but there is a great restaurant, the Fat Tui just down the street from Marahau. A little beyond the Fat Tui... More

Small chalet/huts, out of town on top of a hill in the forest - setting is beautiful & quiet :) kitchen & lounge are fine & there are small clearings for outside seating & a BBQ if weather is good. Bathrooms were good size & rooms spotless & nicely decorated. Staff v friendly. More

The kitchen and lounge were excellent, enough bathroom facilities, the place was clean and the hosts extremely commited and friendly. We had a room facing the the back with a lovely porch, so best views of all the wonderful birds (Tuis) in the trees. The room was just big enough and there was enough space to put your suitcases and... More

We stayed for 3 nights in an ensuite double. Room itself was on small side, but completely adequate, and bathroom, communal area and overall cleanliness great for a backpackers. Marahau easily accessible if you have a car. Internet very slow, but not a problem if you are there to explore abal tasman, for which this is an ideal base. Overall,... More

Clean & comfortable rooms & helpful owners. The communal kitchen area is clean & well equipped. There are only 2 sofas so the communal area can be a bit crowded. Good value or money. More

I visited this place with my boyfriend at the end of November. I found the common area to be quite cozy and the kitchen area adequate. I loved how it was tucked away in the woods with hammoks and birds. I was not happy about getting a double bunk bed triple when I had booked and paid for a double... More

Cath and Al really made our Abel Tasman visit rememberable. We spent 3 month in NZ -cycling around the country. When we arrived at Abel Tasman we had some major problems with our bicycles. It was a frustrating experience but staying at this wonderful backpackers made the stress go away. Kanuka Ridge is located in NZ Native Forest, away from... More

I was traveling with a friend and we booked a twin room for 2 nights. The hostel is in a remote but beautiful and quite setting. We stayed 2 nights to be able to take a hike in Abel Tasman NP. Definitely recommended! We paid for wireless for a day (can´t remember the cost) but it didnt work - probably... More

This place is a couple of miles out of Marahau, away from the madding crowds, but well served by the shuttles which can take you to the water taxis or kayaking.. The hosts are knowledgeable about the area, and they were generous with helping us figure out what to do. The rooms and kitchen area are super nice -- the... More
