Typical old English hotel comfortable but quirky. However the staff is not typical they are excellent. Comfortable, quiet rooms, good food, well-kept beers, secure parking, very welcoming and accommodating staff. Good bar with lots of local colour. We enjoyed our stay greatly even though it poured down most of the time. Ideal base for walking in Teesdale and conveniently situated for Low and HIgh Force, Barnard Castle and other adjacent dales.
