This was our first visit since the re-fit. We were hoping for great things, having perused the menu earlier. We had to wait for a long, long time for our food (we ate from the 'tapas' menu') to arrive. I would describe it as mediocre at best; lacking flavour and originality, especially when you are aware of the fantastic produce... More

Amazing setting, but thats it. This place needs proper management. "social Justice" thats what the poor staff have to wear on their aprons. "eat, drink, sleep, think" thats on everything. Not sure what they are trying to imply. There is a huge issue with the kitchen. On the first night you get a reasonable meal choice which is inclusive. Any night after that... More

The whole experience is far removed from the usual run of hotels with staff , many of which are young and apparently on work experience. Our room was superb with a four star bed, wet room, and tv and internet. However, it was a little cold and radiators unable to be turned on in the chilly evening although they did... More

Wonderful surroundings - beautiful old buildings - and an equally old mattress! When I tried to let the receptionist know that the mattress needed replacing (I thought they might be glad to know) she seemed to think I was making the whole thing up and there couldn't possibly be anything wrong as no one else had complained. Disappointing response from... More

Firstly there is absolutely nothing wrong with Dartinghall per se and I say that as a local. The problem is with the White Hart pub/resturant. The whole experience of coming here is spoiled by the appallingly bad service. Staff seem more preocupied with laying tables or disappearing when there are people in the bar than actually serving customers at the... More

We stayed here for our second time. The grounds are still beautiful and we got a deal including a tapas dinner. We were put in room 8, the Weir heritage room. I love medieval themed things, but this room doesn't feel right. Its got a huge pitched ceiling which is nice, but Georgian furniture, a brand new modern bathroom, an... More

I think most of what has been said is true. We stayed in Room 7 in the West wing, which was recently refurbished to a good standard, so no complaints there at all. Catering does need some attention. We never ate any of our 3 meals in the main restaurant only in a small refectory style room. Whilst the staff... More

The grounds are gorgeous. The staff were very nice, and genuinely friendly. The food in the White Hart bar was delicious (a mushroom burger with real mushrooms in it!), even if we had to wait a bit longer than one might usually expect - but it was the beginning of the season, and I think the waiting and bar staff... I stayed here for one night on a conference. The bedroom in the East Wing was small and the "ensuite" was across the across the corridor and accessed by a key. There was an "ensuite "allocated to each room but you needed you room key to access which was a bit of a pain in the middle of the night... More
