The Romantic Hotel Mlyn is a lovely oasis by the river in Karlstejn. Set back from town, it is in a gated compound, overlooking the town and river. The rooms are large and very comfortable, with an elegant bath (but only a handheld shower in our room). Dinner at the restaurant was excellent; they specialize in fresh fish, and you can even pick one out of the tank. Service was a little slow on the night we were there. Breakfast in the morning offered a full array of coffee or tea, fruits, juices, rolls and cheese, and the option of fresh pancakes. Two downsides, if they apply to you: There is no elevator, so if you have mobility problems, you may want to look elsewhere. Second, it is quite a long walk to the castle, all up hill.
