Warmly welcomed upon climbing up late one evening from the Oban ferry. The hosts went out of their way to ensure I got something to eat since the restaurant was winding down. Food superb. Had booked the main suite at the front because everything else was reserved. Not disappointed...huge and well-furnished with that prime harbour view. The bathroom was slightly... More

We spent part of our honeymoon in this hotel in early September. We could not have been better looked after. The hotel is small, but sparkling clean and the seafood and game restaurant is just perfect, particularly if you can get a table overlooking the harbour. Both the game and the seafood beautifully cooked and presented and the wine list... More

Arrived late after a very rough crossing from Oban and were welcolmed by the staff and offered a very welcoming bowl of soup and bread. Just enough to send us to bed nice and warm. Hotel clean and in good order with excellent restaurant for evening meal and great big breakfasts. Made some simple suggestions to make a good hotel... More

The Castlebay Hotel is a nice place to stay on Barra. I was only there from 5pm til 6am as I was catching the early ferry to Oban. The hotel itself is clean and tidy and has a nice reception area. My room (10) had a great view across the bay and was clean and warm (the wether outside was... More

This older hotel is in good condition and our room [12] was clean and tidy with good quality bedding and towels and complimentary toiletries. The view from this room is wonderful but slightly noisy when the early ferry arrives and departs [and with the odd drunks from the public bar arguing at closing time]. The crowning glory was the restaurant... More

I didn't expect to much from this remote hotel but was pleasently surprised. The staff are friendly and the rooms are modern and warm. The best feature of this hotel is the view looking out over the castle, featured in the film Whisky Galore. The food is excellant, including a good breakfast. More

As good as it gets - lovely room with an excellent view over the bay and Kisimul Castle, superb food and first rate welcome and service. At £95 a night for a superior double it's excellent value and we were given an unsolicited discount on our final night as our ferry to Oban left too early to allow us to... More

Very nice hotel. Great Breakfast and Dinner Menu was superb. Really friendly and helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble and they were all concerned that our time on Barra was fantastic. Which it was! Stunning island...the Hebrides in miniature. We will definately stay at this hotel again. More

We stayed 3 nights at the Castlebay Hotel - the beginning of our Hebridean Hopscotch cycle tour. John, our host made us extremely welcome, and paid special attention to the needs of our children, aged 8 and 10, including teaching them a few words of Gaelic. He and the other staff also provided us with good local information, which we... More

Ann and I revisited Barra to celebrate my becoming an octogenarian. We took the last available room which at £ 160 per night was rather more than I had expected to pay. However we did not regret taking it. Room 15, now pretentiously named MacNeil is well furnished with a very comfortable double bed and a large window looking out... More
