We stayed here for one night in April 2012. The location is lovely, an historic rambling chateau situated above the town of Meyrueis. We had a two room suite - our 10 yo son loved having his own room. Decor and furnishings were functional, nothing like as grand as you might imagine from the website but still comfortable. We had... Well-isolated above and beyond the hurly-burly of the rather touristy town of Meyueis, this Chateau-hotel is a haven of peace after a busy day. Dinner on the terrace is something to savour, the staff are friendly and helpful. The wine list is not extensive but reasonable. The rooms nicely appointed, clean and comfortable. More

I was worried when we first arrived at Chateau D'Ayres as our room 'Campanule' smelt musty and looked poorly furnished. Also, the receptionist seemed poorly informed. I thought, 'Oh, no - Fawlty Towers!' However, my opinion improved as we settled in: the side room was excellent for relaxing after a day's walking, spreading out maps, etc.; having a spare bed... Spent a week here; great base for touring the Causse region - caves, canoeing, walking etc. Hotel is spacious - plenty of public rooms, some lavishly furnished with antiques, others focused on games - pool, table tennis, table football (all good for children). Swimming pool and tennis court - neither that busy. Bedroom was spacious, bathroom functional (not luxurious). We... More

You pay a bit of a premium to stay here. Plenty of antique furniture. The sort of hotel where everyone whispers. Did not try the evening meal. Table tennis, billiards and table football available for rainy days/evenings. Swimming pool not open early June, Reasonable buffet breakfast let down by "automatic machine coffee". More

The chateau has a 3 star rating and I think this is about right. Whilst it retains its old charm the rooms would need to be refurbished with new bathrooms if it is to become a 4 or 5 star. That said it is very comfortable and the dining room is lovely with a large stone fireplace and good food.... More

My fiancee and I booked this hotel as a 2-night stay between our trip through Provence, and the latter half of our trip through Languedoc-Roussillon. I knew the hotel was located in the Cevennes National Park, but for some reason I did not account for how difficult it was to reach (dozens of kilometers of winding roads, very far from... More
