The reason I chose this place to stay was initially the premium cost that the premier inn ( the purple palace) about 1 mile away wanted to charge for a night, £75.00. So I did a local search for bed and breakfast on google maps! I called the Giants rest, near Polegate, spoke to a lovely lady whom offered me... More

Had lunch here after an energetic walk on the Downs. Very good service, interesting choice of food from a vast menu, which was very good. Well up to their usual standard of food and service with a lovely log fire to welcome us. There are wooden puzzles on all the tables to keep you occupied whilst you wait for your... More

Just got back from a first trip here. Looked on TA beforehand and was a bit worried but it turned out to be perfect. After a long country walk we were wet, muddy and hungry. This was heaven! The landlord and all the staff were very friendly, very nice ale, delicious sunday roasts and puddings. Great to have the games... More

We visited during last week and both had lovely meals which we thoroughly enjoyed. The barman was very helpful when I asked if my menu choice would be ok for me as I have to follow a Gluten Free diet. I was very impressed when he produced a menu which had every item clearly marked on it as to whether... More

Six of us called here for Sunday lunch with family, when we first arrived every table had a "reserved" sign but were all empty, we almost turned around and walked out until the barman pointed to a table we could have. His story was that the tables were marked as reserved so they could direct customers where they wanted them,... More

We stopped here on a beautiful Sunday lunchtime looking forward to something to eat. However, we found the menu & drinks rather expensive, the tables too close together and the views from outside disappointing so moved on.

Have eaten here before and found the food to be good so was delighted when friends asked to meet them there. Surprised that the place was not very full on a good Sunday lunchtime but Airbourne and the Olympics may have been a reason. Ate outside in the comfortable but unremarkable garden and had good food. Local sausages and bubble... More

I was expecting something more from this pub/restaurant. The food was bland and overcooked, the service slow and the atmosphere was disturbed during our meal by the constant barking of dogs. I would not recommend this place as somewhere to enjoy a meal , a pint yes, but a meal, no. The vegetables were over-cooked and had been kept warm and... More

We went to this pub on Easter Sunday 2012. It was obviously packed out with families enjoying their Easter but we found a small table after we had bought our drinks from the affable landlord and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We only had a bowl of soup there but the service was immaculate and we would not hesitate in going there... More

Writing this having read some of the reviews about this pub. We stayed in a small hotel opposite but ate at the Giant's Rest on Saturday and Sunday evening. Contrary to some of the reviews, we found the food to be absolutely excellent - first class! The first night we had the African beef stew and the sausages with bubble... More
