Being "forced" to stay at this hotel, due to shortage of accomodation for UN personnel, there are a number of features that could be highlighted, besides good security; The brunch on Fridays is really something special, and do not miss the high tea in the afternoons around 16hrs. Fitness facilities are okay, but I was not able to use the... more

I have stayed for multiple weeks at the Serena on two occasions now--once this August 2009 and then in March 2008. The staff are generally top flight, but language issues can come up if you've complex requests. If this happens, they will find you someone who can understand what you need. With security issues that the country faces, the Serena... more

I had a business trip and decided to stay at the Serena in spite of concerns about security. Security is tight at the hotel and police vehicles on either side and one way in and out ensure that vehicles and people are checked before entering the hotel complex. The hotel is beautiful, both the garden, the common areas and the... more

I can't say enough good things about this hotel. It's beatiful, with lovely gardens and Afghan artifacts tastefully displayed throughout the common areas and in the rooms. It's safe. You go through a full security screening each time you enter, and no one can just drive in or walk in from the street. It's well located, right in the middle... more

The Serena is a brilliant hotel in Kabul. Security has been upgraded following the attacks on the hotel and it could now be comfortably considered one of the safest hotels in Kabul. The staff are extremely nice, service is brilliant as is the cleanliness and general amenities provided by the hotel. It is a five-star oasis in the middle of... more

We were given a certificate from our friends for one night romance stay. It was our second time staying here and it bettered the first (don't get room facing the street as it's loud; keep windows shut re: dust... things you learn)- so things depend on how things go each time. The service, sadly, isn't five star. ie: with mysterious... more

Anyone venturing into Afghanistan's capital for the first time is going to have some hesitation. Selecting the Serena also gave me pause as it had been attacked by insurgents earlier in the year with tragic results. But the Serena was the only lodging I could find that had rooms available and took credit cards. Security has been reinforced since the... more

No doubt the Serena is by far the best hotel in the whole of the country, and indeed feels like worlds apart from it. The hotel is beautifully decorated with a local touch. Rooms are spacious and luxurious and offer all the amenities you would expect in an international 5-star hotel (including broadband internet, for free). Food is very good.... more
