Pondicherry is a great experience - anyone would love Pondi.... I was originally booked into another hotel far away from the sea front and it looked ok (but the rooms were a different matter) - so I came to the “Hotel Ponidcherry” via the Lonely Planet guide book. (The price was 2,800 Indian Rupees a day, which I thought rather... more

This hotel looked great online and travellers' reviews were appealing. However, when we arrived the prices were a lot higher than advertised and the only room available for a reasonable price was very small and had a funny small about it. But having travelled in India for 4 weeks before, we could manage that, we thought. At night someone tried... more

We wanted a relaxed break, away from the madness and thus chose sleepy Pondicherry and decided to stay at a lovely French style villa called Hotel De Pondicherry. Located right in the heart of French Pondicherry, Hotel De Pondicherry is walking distance from most sightseeing places in Pondicherry - the promenade, good restaurants, the ashram etc. The highlight of the... more

Quite frankly this is no longer the boutique hotel it advertises on the website, but more of a guest house and well over-priced for what it offers. But having paid fully up front to their booking agent, we had no choice but to stay. On arrival the rooms were musty, damps spots & paint peeling off the walls.. and then... more

Beautifully restored colonial heritage hotel. I thought it was a little pricey for India but it was in line with the other heritage hotels in the city. I only booked with a days notice because I was keeping my trip flexible but I was lucky it was low season, it is more advisable to book ahead in Pondi to get... more

I stayed one night at the Hotel de Pondicherry, a pleasant small hotel in an old French Quarter building that also houses a fine restaurant in its courtyard. My standard room was clean, with 24 hr. hot water, A/C and TV. Booked through Travel Guru, the cost was US$57.43 including taxes. The hotel is just one block from the ocean.... more

Just loved Pondicherry and Hotel de Pondicherry. We spent 4 days there and it was a little time out from the crazy mahem of Tamil Nadu. The hotel is well situated near the sea, lovely restaurants, old colonial houses covered in bougainvillia and wonderful little boutiques. The area around has a French colonial feel, even the police wear Kepis. The hotel... more

Just spent four nights at the hotel, and had a great experience. Beautiful old Colonial palace with lush gardens. We arrived in Pondicherry after a wedding in Calcutta, so we were happy for the calm, more serene atmosphere. Staff was great, ate many meals at the restaurant. Forget your western standards, your in India now, service is slow and mistakes... more

Luckily this hotel had a single room available (on the 40th Anniversary of the MatriMandir at Auroville). The hotel is itself lovely, beautifully decorated with a bar, restaurant and gift shop. I only stayed one night and at first sight the room looked perfect...however after a few hours i wondered why the papers I had left out were feeling damn...then... more

We had a great 3 day stay at Hotel de Pondicherry this week. The Hotel, which is located in the old French part of Pondicherry, is an old French mansion converted into a hotel with 10 rooms, each of which has a different theme and decor. We stayed in the "Rangapillai Room" which is clean, cosy and comfortable. The staff... more
