A lovely building that still retains the feel of the private home it once was. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained but lead down to a rather busy main road. We stopped overnight and had booked into one of the garden rooms. These are described as larger and more modern than the ones in the main house. The room... More

We arrived at 4pm and we were immediately met in the car park by a young porter who tended our luggage to reception,we then encountered a short wait as the hotel had endured a water cut off during the morning and we were promptly shown to the lounge for a cup of tea while our garden room was checked to... The reviews for this hotel and restaurant give a fantastic impression and the accolades that it has received are commendable. However upon closer inspection of this site alone the majority of the reviews praise the quality of the food. The hotel describes itself as a restaurant with rooms, and this is an accurate description in more ways than one. I... More

Beautiful building, nice location, handily placed for Chatsworth House, Bakewell, Buxton and many popular attractions and walking within the Peak District. However, I do not believe that the Bed and Breakfast Superior Room rate was fully worth the price tag. We have paid significantly less for equally desirable rooms and settings. I suspect the £225.00 per night depicts the Michelin... More

The food here is fabulous, the taster menu with accompanying wines easily justifying their star. But do they really need to charge extra for coffee when you've just paid £125 each for the food? The annex room was ok but could have been much better. A very spacious room clearly designed for a king size bed - but just a... More

My Husband & I have dined numerous times at Fischers, both as a couple and with guests. We have tried the 'Taste of Britain' selections, as well as the 'Classic' menu & we have dined here for Sunday luncheon. The food has always been of excellent quality & the wine choices are varied and to suit all palates. I am... More

Stayed at Fischers for the weekend.   The welcome greeting wasn't particularly friendly; with no conversation made as we made our way over to our garden room.  The room was lovely, spacious and clean.   The only gripe I've got with the room is providing milk in those little cartons - is a mini fridge with a jug of fresh... This was a second visit to Fischers - the first time we selected from the three-course menu, this time we opted for the 'Taste of Britain' taster menu. We also stayed overnight in one of the 11 bedrooms. The menu consisted of 9 courses (which sounds a lot, but the emphasis really is on quality rather than quantity) each perfectly... More

We have eaten at Fischers several times and cannot complain about the food. The atmosphere however can only he described as mausoleum like!! No music, austere, pompous and generally unfriendly. I know many people who feel the same. If it's a serious night out with excellent food then this is the place. However for excellent food and a place with... More
