My friend and I stayed here as a bit of a last minute decision after spending a few nights in a campervan. We visited Mount Cook for the day with the intention of camping, but decided to see how much it would cost us for a room for the night. When we were offered dinner, bed and breakfast in a... More

I stayed here recently with my mom. We stayed in the section that has been refurbished with a view of the mountain. We really enjoyed our stay here, it was not too busy whilst we were there and was so quiet and peaceful. We had included a continental breakfast which was outstanding and the dining room has beautiful views onto... More

This was my first stay at the Hermitage and was very impressed. The room was absolutely immaculately clean, comfortable, cozy and made our stay that much more special. We had a Mt Cook view room and woke up every day to the spectacular mountain views with a backdrop of turquoise skies. Being able to organize all of your activities from... More

This is our second visit to Mt Cook but our first time staying at Mt Cook village. We decided to splurge a little and stay in the Hermitage Hotel. Our room was incredibly clean and modern with an amazing bathroom, fantastic soft carpet and a huge comfortable bed. We paid for a Tasman Glacier view room but when we stepped... More

We stayed in a Standard Mt Cook room for 2 nights. We had a comfortable stay and a great time in the Mt Cook region, but felt that the Hermitage Hotel lacked refinement. As it sells itself as a luxury 5-star hotel, we came across a few too many minor flaws for comfort. These minor annoyances would have been acceptable... More

I stayed here back in 2009 and in spite of the power outage still had an amazing experience. I planned another birthday trip this year (2012) and all I can say is - Ooops - you can't go back again. The staff was surely and disagreeable and had no interest in making my special occasion memorable in spite of the... More

This is the second time we have stayed on the 10th floor of the Hermitage the first time 3 years ago. The rooms while clean and comfortable are starting to look a bit tired. However the view remains incredible and waking up with the sun just reaching the top of Mt. Cook is something special. We ate in both the... More

Fabulous hotel and the food excellent, especially the Canterbury rack of lamb. Great to wake up to the morning sun on Mt Cook & Mt Sefton. Some reviews have said it is expensive but some places are worth it. The Hermitage is definately one of them. More

We booked this hotel for 3 nights with some trepidation due to the mixed bag of reviews from other TA members. But it was a special birthday and we decided to treat ourselves. We were allocated Room 1011, an Aoraki room on the top floor at one end with a balcony. The view was stunning, it was magic to wake... More

Almost feels like a state run hotel with all the trappings that come with a monopolistic set up. Rooms are basic but the views are gorgeous and to be fair it's not the hotel that draws you here. A one night stopover is fine but any longer would be hard. Bring your own food - tried both the cafe and... More
