As a European Indologist and linguist, I had the privilege to stay at Olappamanna Mana together with my colleague Professor Christophe Vielle from Louvain (Belgium) who had discovered the address through a laudatory report in a Kerala magazine a while ago. It was a true highlight of our 2-week-long expedition through Kerala, looking for traces of the German Jesuit Johann... More

We stayed here for 3 nights in mid-January. As other reviewers have said, this is a magical and very special place, with the very best of hospitality. If you are looking for modern hotel amenitied, look elsewhere. But if what you want is tranquility, comfortable accommodation, excellent food and a sense of life in a 300 year old household -... As mentioned in our previous post-Oct 2011, we took our son who is visiting us from California to Olapmanna Mana during the Christmas Holidays. Again, needless to say, right from the start till the end we were treated like family during our entire stay. Mr. Damodaran , the host and his wife Mrs. Sreedevi run this place with great zeal... It is hard to describe how wonderful this place really is since it is so full of surprises. Getting to watch a beautiful and intricate Hindu ritual at the family home, swimming in the pristine river, a sunset hike and long conversations about Gandhi and India's history...these were all things that we had not expected but which made the time... A wonderful home stay with very gracious and attentive hosts. My husband had his birthday during our stay and we were welcomed with a birthday lunch and a special for gift. Mr Damodaran also arranged for a private ceremony to bless the 'birthday boy' which made this a very auspicious day for him (and us). This is a very unique... More

We decided a short getaway from Bangalore. While doing research for a previous trip came across this place. Right from initial stage of Enquiry till we finished the trip, we got excellent response from Mr. Damodaran. Within a few minutes and without doubt we were welcomed and became a part of their family. Mr. Damodaran is highly knowledgeable person with... More

The moment you touch your feet on Olappamanna Mana, your innate spiritual feeling comes to the fore front and the materialism in your mind takes the back sea!. As you shake your hands with the host Sri. Damodaran Namboodiri, you are welcomed as part of their family of feudal lords! As you meet his better-half at his Mana (which is... More

A place still in the late 19th/early 20th century, where you can relive the old moments! An excellent place to have hands on experience on how your ancestors used to live. Being a city born & bought up kid (both my parents & my grandparents were from the City) I never had the experience of going to one's native village... More

Olappamanna Mana is a magical place! The building is very, very beautiful, the hosts couldn't be nicer and are very interesting to talk to, the home cooked food is the best Southern Indian vegetarian food I have ever tasted, the people in the village are very friendly and welcoming and the natural setting is superb. I was travelling alone, stayed... More
