We got a great deal through booking.com and although we only live 50k away we decided to treat ourselves to a day away. The hotel is so welcoming and we found the room clean and comfortable and we had a lovely verandah overlooking the river. I think all the rooms have a private outside space. There are two swimming pools... More

Stayed here only one night while travelling further north to Serpa but wished we could have stayed longer. Friendly staff who went out of their way to be helpful, very good Portugese food (especially the dish of the day which was either cuttlefish or a delicious lamb stew). Rooms simple but very clean with a small balcony looking out over... More

Small unspoilt Portugese village 25 miles up from the Algarve beaches and facing the small unspoilt Spanish town of Sanlucar across the river. We went in mid October and the hotel had about 6-12 guests each night. Rooms good. Swimming pool excellent - we had it to ourselves most of the time, its above the lawn that leads down to... More

The rooms were a little smaller than photos suggested but had all we needed, nice and clean the staff looked after us and were polite and helpful. we did not speak the language but were understood. We enjoyed the food but the menu did not change throughout the week so by the 4th day became a little boring. If only... More

Upon arriving the hotel receptionist thought we were headed for the wrong hotel, as on the internet there has been confusion between bookings with another hotel in Monte Gordo (a blackpool of Portugal). But this hotel was just lovely. It is far from the beach, but there is a lovely pleasant sized pool easily accessed by all rooms, and a... More

Very friendly staf. Feel like among family. First class management, and exceptional food for the type of hotel. If you really want to rest that's the place. Two nice swimming pools. The rooms are asking for redecoration but they have all what is needed. All have a nice balcony to take your tea or sandwish. Bathrooms large but old. Very good... More

Points in favour: Good restaurant; very friendly and helpful staff/management; good air conditioning; good swiimming pool facilities; wonderful views; very little traffic; important as a rented car is a must, being a fairly isolated area. National Park to the north and beaches to the south. Points against: The only TV channel in English is Eurosports, which didn't interest us; although... More

We stayed at the Estalagem do Guadiana for six days in June 2009. We are both about 60. There is little on offer to entertain guests except the excellent restaurant and the superb pools. There was no Karioke, no Pool Aerobics, no Disco Music. Absolutely wonderful. The village nearby had two banks and a handfull of bars, but lacked much... More
