Nice enough resort in a very rural location amid rather flat & uninspiring countryside.
Just on the Slovenian border, with Austria & Croatia easily accessible, there are many places to visit, especially if you are prepared to drive a distance.
Locally you can visit the National Park of Orseg.
Further afield the spa town of Heviz is a must, with its thermal lake (the largest biochemical peat-based lake in the world, it boasts). Water temperature is 30C, so it's very relaxing.
Beyond is Europe's largest lake, Balaton (about 50 miles drive). It seemed the summer season was well & truly over, with practically everything closed (at least during the week). From the natural beauty & size of the lake, it was obviously a popular place for tourists earlier in the year.
Would not wish to generalise, but our experiences of most Hungarians we met were of a people not overly friendly (despite our attempts to converse in their native tongue). Even the more...
