I was quite disappointed by this hostel/hotel...I had stayed in many in Central America..Nicaragua and Costa Rica and this was by far the worst one as far as partying and loudness. Apparently the owner leaves the hotel, which isint supposed to happen for security there must always be someone there. He goes home at 9-10pm everynight and he locks the... More

We stayed there for 3 nights and enjoyed it very much. Evan is a cool guy who helped us figuiring out the best things to do in Monteverde (we did the 100% Aventura Canopy, the bird tour with Fredi, the frog pond in Santa Elena and the Butterfly gardens). The Place is clean and the rooms (we had a double... More

Great location in the heart of Santa ELena. Staff very helpful with booking tours etc. Make your own breakfast - which was fine. Very very noisy - busy street corner and you could hear even quiet talking in the other rooms. Price was great - hot water wasn't. Nice communal area with computers, met many fellow travelers from all over... More

I have just stayed at Hotel El Tucan in Santa Elena, Monteverde, and it was a very good experience.. The owner of the hotel (Tony) is very friendly, and can help you with almost any request of your... The rooms are very nice and very clean: you can have small very cheap rooms or bigger and a little more expensive... More

Well what a surprise. Room and bed clean, small but adequate for our two nights. Noisy room as hotel situated on corner of streets. A few of the rooms overhang the pathway below, so no insulation to block noise. Breakfast basic, and to wash own pots afterwards. Did have reasonable hot water, although electric wires on shower head were somewhat... More

The rooms are ok, we had a triple room for 20 dollars, incl breakfast. Don't expect too much of the breakfast though, you can just toast some bread, cook an egg, and have some fruit. It was enough for us! The owners are very kind and helpful. We had a large bathroom with hot water, which was really nice because... More

Floorboards directly above reception dont block any noise. So we heard everything - most if noise came from reception. That said tour and bus organisation was helpful and was cheap with mediocre breakfast. More

You get free breakfast and free use of the internet...so these are both pluses. And they also have laundry service for a small fee. However, My sister and I were both attacked my bed bug while staying there, Evan at the front desk hit on every girl and by night fall he was hooking up with tourist girls in the... More

Upon arriving to the Toucan we met the wonderul owner, the place was clean, rooms were nice, free wifi and computers offered for guests, and an okay free breakfast. The only problem was that employee seemed to take the owners absence as a chance to hit on every girl, instead of helping us plan he hit on every girl and... More
