Ok, this hostel wasn't all bad. One of the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the free breakfast was more than enough to fill you up and was yummy, the location is pretty handy being right in the middle of the action really, the showers have hot water and it's great if you're a twitcher. But we aren't twitchers. Along... More

Not a bad little hostel. We stayed in two of the three deluxe rooms upstairs with the private attached baths (shower plenty of hot water, cold water sink, and toilet). The double bed filled most of the room and the roof pitch eats into even more room volume, but the room was clean and the bed adequate. Basic accommodations at... More

Price of a dorm, but you get small double room w private bath, Friendly English-speaking desk, very informative & helpful. Altho quiet is requested after 10pm, there is some nearby noise later. Nice continental breakfast. Even has parking. Within walking distance to Santa Elena restaurants, esp Morpho's. More

We chose this as a one night stop to allow us to visit the cloud forest. The property is nothing special, it is small and quite dated. There are the basics, a room, connected bath and a bed. There isn't any furniture or closet but again this is a backpacker's stop. The bed was decent. The bathroom although very sparse... More

Ok lets start with the positives to show we are not negative nellies; breakfast, staff, location and hot water were all provided to an adequate level. Right now that is out of the way here are the negatives with this place; damp, mouldy smell, decour out of a 70's woodland motel with wooden panels that picked up every movement ALL... More

This was stop #2 out of 4 places my family of 3 stayed while in Costa Rica. I wanted to show my son different types of places people stay in vacation. I wanted him to know everyplace wasn't a resort. We did some back and forth emails with Alonso, and he assured me he'd save is a private room, with... More

we had a private room with private bath, it was fine, no frills just a bed. The hosts are very knowledgeable and friendly, and really keep an eye on the place. We felt very safe. The included breakfast was great, bread, fruits, cookies. I would recommend cooking a few meals in their kitchen as the restaurants in town are overpriced... More

I read up and knew that Monteverde Backpackers was going to be 'modest.' All the same, our room for only 2 did have it's own bathroom and was comfortable. Carlos was GREAT he recommended Extremo zip line canopy tour as well as a night walk tour and both were a blast, especially Extremo! Carlos was very friendly and just so... More

We booked this place as it is a sister hostel of Arenal Backpackers in La Fortuna. Sadly it is nowhere near the same standard and not similar at all in style/atmosphere. We only stayed here for one night and didn't spend much in our room as we were out and about doing trips. It's a good location but that's about... More

This is a small hostel that is clean, connected and convenient. The hostel itself is about 2 min walk away from a supermarket and 1 more to the main street of Santa Elena. The manager Juan Carlos provides a great deal of information on activities around Monteverde, as well as connections to other areas. He goes out of his way... More
