You can go on day trips to Palma and most of the island, but to experience real Majorca, head for the mountains. 30 mins from the airport, Hotel Can-Xim is deluxe private hotel with excellent restaurant called Traffic. It doesn't have the usual reception areas which makes it feel like a private house. Toni and Francesca are always on hand to help you. It does have a swimming pool. I'm not sure why you'd leave Alaro but the bus leaves every 30 mins.
