The Chlachain Inn is just round the corner and a short walk up the hill from Mallaig Station and the Mallaig ferry terminal. We didn't dine there, but the menu looks interesting. Welcome was genuinely friendly, and the (rear facing) double room with en-suite was clean and comfortable. You pre-order your breakfast the previous evening on a tick-box slip. At... More

We stayed in the Chlachain Inn for one night on 3rd June 2013 on our way to Skye. The welcome we got from the owner was first class. A lovely guy who is running an excellent business. Our bedroom was roomy and spotlessly clean and we even had our own outside seating area with a view over the sea. Although... More

Very clean pub and quick service at the bar unfortunately the food took quite a long time to come to us even when people that had ordered after us had there food first finished it and gone . We then asked if it would have helped if we had ordered a fish dish as we only had a limited time... More

Stay just one night during our cycling tour of the Highlands and Islands. Great welcome, great food, great place to stay. Safe storage for cycles available. We arrived in the pouring rain and the hosts didn't blink an eyelid. The Inn also does a great evening meal. They night we stayed there was a live singer which only added to... More

Before we even checked in (we were having a drink by the roaring coal fire in the bar) we observed the friendly staff at the Clachain Inn finding alternative accommodation for not one, but two, groups of travellers who had nowhere to stay that night (and the Clachain was full). Having secured local B&B accommodation for them, they even offered... More

I stayed for one night in early May with two friends who were to embark on 'The Great Outdoors' walk across Scotland. We were warmly welcomed by Cameron and made to feel at home. Although the Inn was busy Cameron and Dave found us a table and we had great and fulfilling local food: including scallops with black pudding and... More

Stunning Scottish food, superbly presented. Highly recommend the chowder, and the haggis starter. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was very welcoming after a good tramp over the hills!

Stayed here on Fri 12th got great welcome and got a room with balcony, had great view. Room very clean, spacious and warm. Live band singing (not too bad for a rock band) Would recommend here for anyone to eat and stay. Couple of minutes walk from Train station and boat Good luck to Cameron and Danny on your venture,... Booked for Friday night and had a lovely stay. Room was nice and bright with a little verandah and sea views. Substantial continental breakfast. We decided to try to stay an extra night but they were fully booked. However owner phoned around on Saturday morning and found us somewhere for that night. He even ran us and our luggage the... More

Arriving in Mallaig from the 1st leg of our trip on the Jacobite Express to celebrate our wedding anniversary, we were needing something more substantial and nourishing that F&C to soak up the champagne from the train journey. We found Chlachain Inn up the brae and decided to enter. The Inn had recently changed ownership and we were greeted and... More
