This is a very peaceful place to stay and it's what we needed that day. We had the lovely Viscount's room with the four poster bed. Eileen and Peter were very helpful. The building is beautiful and the blue sitting room set aside for guests was a lovely place to sit and has free internet. We really enjoyed the meal... More

We were privileged to stay one night at Smarmore Castle and this was one of the highlights of our entire trip. The owners made us feel so welcome and at home and showed us to the Viscount's Room. Honestly, we felt like we were the Lord and Lady of the manor, there for a visit. Even though we were in... More

We wanted a little easter break and almost everywhere in NI was full. However, I was dreading it as generally anything we could get would likely be bunged to capacity, noisy, small and cramped. Smarmore castle was the polar opposite. Spacious, clean, quiet and welcoming. The castle itself is almost enclosed in a little house that adjoins it, and is... More

We stayed in Smarmore on an overnight stay coming back from Dublin to the north. Arrived late in the evening so didn't avail of the restaurant. We were welcomed by the hosts and showed to our wonderful rooms which were steeped in history. I really couldn't recommend this place highly enough. Fantastic location, wonderfully kept, breakfast was amazing, excellent value... More

My wife and I did a two week driving trip through Ireland in July/August of 2012. This was our first stop. Short drive from Dublin airport ( nice after an overnight flight from Canada). Great hosts and breakfast, on-site Italian restaurant was nice with good value and food, easy taxi to Ardee. It was a convenient home base for visiting... More

We just got back from Ireland and this was our first stop on our journey and a wonderful welcome place to stay. We arrived in Dublin and headed out to the Smarmore with great expectations and were not disappointed. We were greeted by our host Eileen who showed us around and then to the Viscount room. It was very spacious... More

We held our wedding ceremony at Smarmore castle in Dec 2012. Ours was a small wedding of 18 people so the accommodation of 6 bedrooms and the facility of having a restaurant onsite was perfect for us. We used the tower room to hold our ceremony and we were allowed to decorate it how we wanted to for the occasion.... More

We arrived in the dark after a long drive from Killarney and left the next day for scotland but wished we could have had more time. The hosts were fabulous and gave us plenty of email advice when they knew we were driving so far. Very welcoming when we arrived and waved us off when we left. The room was... More
