I had an excellent one day stay at Panga Chumvi in March 2013. The setting is incredible--white sand, dramatic tidal changes, magical sunrise. I was able to take long walks on the beach and felt incredibly safe. The staff at the resort was friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. It was a very chill place to spend some time... More

I was so pleased I found Panga Chumvi... it was the perfect spot to retreat to after climbing Kilimanjaro. I liked the idea of a beach-front room but instead chose one of the rooms in the Mchanga Mdogo Villa as it was stylish, very spacious and had lovely views overlooking the garden and the sea. The staff were very friendly... More

Stunning location, beach couldn't be more lovely, sand as white and soft as flour, quiet beach and very few hawkers. Sea not the nicest but not terrible, lots of seaweed where they are farming, and sea urchins, not really the resorts fault. Rooms (we were in the Baharini rooms) two at the front were great, other double tucked away around... More

Many thanks for your helpful review! I do believe we have managed to address all your points raised, and we really appreciated your ‘on-the-spot’ suggestions. We realised rapidly when your group arrived that the supplies of ice and beer were not coming rapidly enough – and so found ways to supply this. It was a good challenge for us, and... More

My girlfriend and I stayed in a beachfront room in Panga Chumvi in January 2013. First of all our room actually included two rooms and shower with hot water. More importantly we had a huge terrace stretching all the way to the relatively quiet beach of Matemwe. Right next to the terrace there was a grove with hammocks in the... More

Amazing location on Matemwe Beach and the staff as well as Rebecca, the English co-owner did a magnificent job of making our stay special. The food is good but portions a bit small compared to nearby restaurants. A wonderful place to stay and enjoy Zanzibar!

After spending 5 hectic weeks on the mainland of Africa staying no longer than 2 nights at any one place we have planned a 5 day stay on one of the less visited beaches of Zanzibar. Matemwe and the Panga Chumvi turns out to be the prefect place. It is a slower time of the year and there are only... More

Rebecca's running a fantastic place in a fantastic location and supported by fantastic staff! The hotel is located on the beach and we stayed in the sea facing rooms that open straight on to the beach. The rooms are simple, clean and with hot water. The beach in Matemwe is a gorgeous stretch of soft, white sand. The beach is... More

When we decided to return to Zanzibar for a diving holiday, Panga Chumvi was an obvious choice for us having enjoyed our stay so much the first time around. We opted to stay upstairs in the two-storey building this time, and though we were marginally further away from the sea, we greatly enjoyed the larger room and the wooden floor... More

I stayed at Panga Chumvi in October and am still dreaming sweet dreams about the place and also about the food there. What a fantastic location! If you're looking for a quiet, natural sort of beach, away from the crowds - this is where you need to come. Sit on the restaurant veranda gazing out across the reef, with the... More

We stayed here for 4 nights in September and we had a great time. Our bungalow was just in front of the beach, is very quiet and calm. The room was big , recently refurbished, with a nice big balcony so you can enjoy the grest view. Perfect place if you need to relax, you can spend your day diving,... More
