This hotel is in an awesome location, about 5km south of Skaftafell Park at the foot of Hvannadalshnúkur (The highest mountain in Iceland), right on the Ring Road. What a backdrop! Unfortunately, the amazement ends with the 1st impression. The building itself looks like a boring barracks and all of the rooms face the OTHER way from the mountain and... More

Ok we stopped by the hotel because we were hungry after a long day of driving. See my reviews on Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. We were desperate for food because there weren't anything around the area. It is basically like a no man's land in that town. We saw a petrol station opposite the hotel but the shop was not opened.... More

I loved staying here! It was December when we stayed here, so everything was covered in snow and I think if it had been a posh 5 star hotel it would have ruined the scenery. Yes it is a bit overpriced but so is the rest of Iceland. The food was just what you need for the cold weather. The... More

To start with the food - because that's what a lot of other reviews focus on. Yes, it is a little expensive, but that's to be expected in Iceland. And, I know from experience, that at least one other hotel/guest house nearby is considerably more expensive. More importantly, the food was of very good quality, nicely prepared and served. And... This hotel was in an excellent location. With easy access to Skaftafell National Park and the glacier right out of the back door! The hotel itself is extremely dated and not really my style. The room was warm and comfortable enough, but everything just seemed out of date. Breakfast was great, very plentiful. We had eaten dinner before we arrived... More

Agree with everything Will9845 wrote, very well described, similar to our own experience. Foss is a cozy laid back, comfortable hotel. OK may be in need of cosmetic modernisation, but served its purpose. We got a good last minute non refundable deal on the internet. Breakfast was sufficient and typical of most places. Be warned that if you choose not... More

I will give only 2 stars to this hotel mainly because of one of the people from the reception (a Czech woman) who was really rude. We were 2 people (I was with someone from Iceland) and it wasn't only me who was extremely annoyed about the woman's atitude. Also, the Icelander was very upset as no-one from the reception... More

Great experience for family of 4 for off season (April '12) and staff training and inventory levels just gearing up for main season. Stayed two nights, breakfast and dinner each day. Rooms were quaint, clean and comfortable but not large. Hottest and highest volume of water seen in showers ever though no tubs which was fine. Frontdesk helpful. Internet was... More

Standard chain accommodation, in places looking a little tired, however it is warm. We choose this as a stopping point as the weather was meant to be bad with the roads being slippery, in the vent it was wet and the roads OK. However as the hotel is very near Skafkatel Glaciers and in fact several others you seen them... More
