After traveling mainland Nicaragua for a week, we landed at Paraiso and couldn't be more pleased. Rooms are cabana-style, with air-con, comfy beds, hot water, hammock on your porch. It may be owned by a couple of Dutch citizens, however, they have not brought any improvements to Big Corn. The hotel is a joke - bad location, narrow strip of property on a lousy beach, over-priced meals, uncomfortable rooms, etc., etc. Their website suggests that couples can plan a wedding at their beach...it would be their worst nightmare. A 10% gratuity is added to every bill at the restaurant. The employees do not see any of it as the owner pockets the tips. A guest left $150 for the waitresses and it was not given to them. Rooms are dark and dank, loud airconditioners, windows with broken screens and wooden shutters. One of the maids was fired during our stay for stealing from numerous rooms. We were there for a week before the restaurant had any beef or cheese available, which was half the menu. All the food was terribly overcooked. Barely any alcohol in the cocktails.... more

My husband and I spent 5 nights at Paraiso over Christmas and totally enjoyed our stay. We got the last available room at the resort, the Standard room with a Queen-sized bed.
