I was one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. I am a well seasoned traveler throughout central america so I have pretty much seen it all. It was overpriced for the what the condition of the room. The restraunt was double the price of any of the other ones on the island. They just nickel and dimed... more

I stayed at the Paraiso with a friend and found this little hotel charming, well run by the Dutch owner and overall had a pleasant stay. However, Big Corn island and its facilities in general are not for the novice traveller as the island is very isolated and does not rate as a destination for the tourist looking for all... more

After traveling mainland Nicaragua for a week, we landed at Paraiso and couldn't be more pleased. Rooms are cabana-style, with air-con, comfy beds, hot water, hammock on your porch. Grounds emit relaxation, ocean is a few paces away, nice snorkeling right from Paraiso beach. We toured the island and couldn't find a better place. Owners support sustainable tourism and help... more

It may be owned by a couple of Dutch citizens, however, they have not brought any improvements to Big Corn. The hotel is a joke - bad location, narrow strip of property on a lousy beach, over-priced meals, uncomfortable rooms, etc., etc. Their website suggests that couples can plan a wedding at their beach...it would be their worst nightmare. Go... more

It is true, if you want Bahamas or Roatan luxury, than Corn Island is the wrong place to be. Travelling has to be a genuine experience, not just an subjective observation. If you want to have an authentic Caribbean travel experience which you can share with like-minded travellers, Corn Island is the place to be. It is an undiscovered, undeveloped,...

I stayed at the Paraiso and was overjoyed with the feel and location. Make no mistake that you are visiting a 3rd world country. The Island still has garbage issues and safety issues to contend with, but the Hotel was walled and secured by watchmen and I felt very safe. The atmosphere was one of total relaxation and tranquility. There... more

A 10% gratuity is added to every bill at the restaurant. The employees do not see any of it as the owner pockets the tips. A guest left $150 for the waitresses and it was not given to them. Very sad to see someone from Holland take advantage of the locals in that way. The waitresses make around $100 a... more

I am a Travel Agent and came to Nicaragua to explore the area. We arrived in the Afternoon to our hotel and looked good until we walked down the beach toward "town" ...Beaches are full of trash, town did not feel safe. we took a cab back to the hotel for dinner. Dinner was OVER PRICED, OVER COOKED and for... more

In January Big Corn Island was just suffering from a heavy storm which was lasting for about 2 weeks, so the beaches where full of garbage. Because there are no machines on the island to clean the beaches it has to be done by hand, which will take some time to be done. We are sorry for that, but if...

Rooms are dark and dank, loud airconditioners, windows with broken screens and wooden shutters. One of the maids was fired during our stay for stealing from numerous rooms. We were there for a week before the restaurant had any beef or cheese available, which was half the menu. All the food was terribly overcooked. Barely any alcohol in the cocktails.... more

My husband and I spent 5 nights at Paraiso over Christmas and totally enjoyed our stay. We got the last available room at the resort, the Standard room with a Queen-sized bed. The room is basic and big enough for the 2 of us though the bathroom can do with some touch-up. Each hut you see on the website actually... more
