Fort Illocandia Resort & Casino is apparently the only 5-Star hotel in northern Philippines, located in a quite seaside location in Laoag. It was built by the dictator Marcos for his daughter’s wedding reception, showcasing his personal wealth & power. Purchased from the government by Hong Kong businessmen they have refurbished it & have transformed this once elite playground into... more

Interesting place - on arrival its really impressive - large and beautifuly kept reception area, then a garden leading past a beautiful fountain (if its working) to excellent rooms overlooking the garden, pool or sea. Its only later that the not so nice side of where you are starts to creep in. The Philippines cannot really do good resort hotels... more

Beautiful property built to reflect Fil-Hispanic heritage of the Ilocos Norte province. The hotel is well-maintained and has extensive beautifully manicured gardens. The in-house fine dining Chinese restaurant (Taiwanese chef) has exceptional cuisine, hard to find even in Manila. This is no doubt due to the large number of Taiwanese tourists who come here to golf, gamble and relax in... more

I stayed at the fort Ilocandia Resort in Laoag, Philippines for 4 nights in September 2009. The grounds and exterior of the resort were beautiful. The exterior was all brick and the vast expanse of lawn was meticulously groomed. They have an Olympic-length swimming pool and two lagoons. They even have a mini zoo with ostriches, monkeys, a bearcat, snakes,... more

The property is great with all amenities you would need in a resort. They have activities for all ages, including beach area. The staff is great, helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean and big, linens are clean. Bathrooms are well maintained. There's a few restaurants and bars in the property where prices are so reasonable. Concierge and Tour operators... more

Fort Ilocandia seems to be located in the middle of nowhere. From the Laoag International Airport, Fort Ilocandia is a 20-minute or so drive through the sparsely populated Ilocos Norte suburb. I do not recommend it to travelers who have no car rental arrangements. The estate stands out on a background of sky and sea, because of its reddish brick... more

I stayed here for two nights as part of a tour group. Checking in took a while because they booked most people in rooms with a single large bed, when some of us needed separate beds (two doubles). It took a while, but the staff were friendly as they changed our accommodations. The grounds are very big, so for people... more

We stayed at Fort Ilocandia during the Holy Week period last year. We were fetched at the airport by the resort shuttle bus. It was a 30-minute ride from Laoag airport to the resort property, which was huge but pretty isolated, far from other options. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with a ice-cold drink (orange juice, accented with a gumamela... more

Like another review, we were also told that ‘fully booked’ when we called directly, got booking through an agent, $120/night average for two nights. Let me make bullet points of our experience (may be different during less busy periods): - Front desk was confused and took them 25 minute to figure our booking and give us the key. - Rooms... more
