My wife, son and I stayed for four nights in a two bedroom/1 bathroom suite. The hospitality of the owners, Dorothy and Ed, surpassed anything we have experienced in our travels. If TV and WiFi are your thing stay away. If comfort and gracious living from a bygone era is your taste then do not miss this nugget. Don't just... More

This historic inn is in a great location in Newport, RI and a very good price. However, there is a lot left to be desired: breakfast buffet very skimpy, nothing except water or tea offered all day, very cluttered ambiance -- feels dusty.

went to Rhode Island for Greek Festival with friends and their families. the hotel was great surprise amongst ugly overpriced chain hotels without character. The location is great 1 mile from the center yet quiet, next to the park, with wonderful comfortable tranquil setting. Could not enjoy more sitting in their terrace, watching boats (partial view). the hosts are wonderful,... More

Stella Maris is conveniently located within walking distance of the harbor and of downtown Newport. We found that staying here was a welcome respite from run-of-the-mill motels, and it was less expensive than most of them in this high-cost area. Add to that the gracious hospitality of innkeepers Ed and Dorothy and you have a memorable two days. Ed was... More

My wife and I decided at the last minute to stay the night in Newport at the tail end of a weeklong trip. We went to the visitor center and gave our price range/desires, and they recommended the Stella Maris. It was perfect for our needs...and one of the few available lodging options for a Friday night at 5:30pm. The... More

Gracious hosts who are happy to give you helpful hint on directions ect. Delicious home made breakfast, fantastic views, I would come for the porch alone. And a sustained pleasant dialogue with the the host who have a multitude of experience.

The Stella Maris Inn is an excellent place to stay while visiting Newport. Ed and Dorothy are wonderful hosts and the house is in a very convenient spot with wonderful sea views. The rooms are very comfortable. If you want dinner while there we discovered an excellent restaurant, within walking distance, called The Rhumbline at 62 bridge st, (recommended by... More

I stayed at the Stella Maris over 4th of July weekend. Dorothy and Ed were very kind and ran a beautiful B&B. The Stella Maris is a large renovated old house from the 1800s with an interesting history. The decor gives the house a sense of both class and coziness. The breakfast was homemade (in response to another post, I... More

We arrived late on a Thursday evening without a booking but armed with a recommendation of the Lonely Planet Guide. The owners were very welcoming and advised us of good resturants in the area that would not blow the budget. We absolutely loved the house and its old-world charm. We would have loved to stay longer but we had to... More

I have just returned from Newport. I spent one night at the Stella Maris Inn. I pulled into Newport with no place to stay. I read about the Stella Maris Inn in my book Rhode Island: Off The Beaten Path. I called a few other Inn's. I liked the price of the Stella Maris especially for being located with an... More
