On the outside the Alpine Glacier lodge appears like your standard 70's motel, nothing to get excited about - nor should you for the modest tariffs in a tourist town. Close by the main part of town, easy walk to the shops etc. Very spacious rooms which were neat and clean and also comfortable with its own kitchen. Very friendly staff who were very accommodating. Recommended.

You are literally just steps from everything. The motel room we stayed in was clean and spacious, with a wall mounted tv. The kitchenette seemed well equipped. The bathroom was large and had a welcome heat light, although the wet room style shower ensured that water went everywhere when you showered. The managers were incredibly chirpy, lovely stay.

We stayed 2 nights on our trip to the South island, the experience was awesome. The rooms are of the best quality and care, just adds to the beauty of staying in Franz Josef. Highly recommend to everyone!

The Alpine Glacier Motor Lodge is very nice with plenty of room at a reasonable price. The location is perfect for exploring the glaciers and walking around Lake Matheson.
